being online autobiography
Hey everyone, I'm Beth.. but let's just call me Elizabethany. :)
Am I a digital native? Yes, I'd say so.. Growing up with a dad whose whole life is devoted to computers, it's hard not to be. Plus, I think this generation is full of us "digital natives." Facebook, MySpace, even Xanga and LiveJournal kind of make it hard for us not to be constantly online.. and CELL PHONES?! I can't live without mine for even an hour.. and I don't think I'm alone in that sense.. same with music, iPods, CDs, whatever... I'm not sure what happened to all of us, but somehow we all got a crazy addiction to this thing called technology.
For me, I can always remember my mom emailing when I was a kid, and all I wanted was my own email account. Honestly, I'll never forget the day. My mom FINALLY made me an account.. it was flipper@juno.com. (I was a gymnast all my life.. so it only made sense to have an email address like that..) I checked it every day thinking I'd get SOMETHING. But, I was 8 years old.. what's an 8 year old going to do with an email address? I just had to wait for the day when she would FINALLY let me create my AIM account..
As for now, of course I still love the classics of email and AIM! :) But, as a college student, I'm officially addicted to Facebook, and there's nothing I can do about it. It keeps me occupied, lets me check up on ALL my friends... (and others, of course!) I always get to be in contact with whoever!
And yes, texting is another addiction.. and I'm ALWAYS on AIM.. no matter what. But as for my "secondary" choices, if you will, my bookmarks consist of Washington Redskins websites, YOUTUBE!, online games, and my radio station's podcast site.
Okay so the computer doesn't revolve around the internet.. right!? And sometimes.. on those terrible days.. my internet isn't working. That's when I create videos, edit my photographs (I LOVE photography!).. and sometimes, I create websites to publish later. :)
Between all of them, I think I spend a good majority of my day using technology.. and I'm not complaining.
